Sri Krishna Leela Tarangini of Sri Narayna Theertha Swamigal is a magnum opus. Born in Andhra Pradesh, Sri Narayna Theerthar mastered Sanskrit, Carnatic music and Shastra in His early age and was ordained as a Sanyasi by Sri Sivarama Tirtha Swamigal. While He was traveling to Thanjavur district, He was badly afflicted by severe stomach pain and prayed to Lord Sri Venkateswara for cure. A divine voice guided Him to follow the first object He saw the next morning. He saw a boar and followed the boar, which led Him to Varahur Kshethram and got His stomach pain cured with the blessings of Lord Sri Venkateswara. He stayed there and sang Krisha Leela Tarangini, which is a condensed version of the Dasamaskandha of Srimadh Bhagavatham.
Tarangam means waves and the meaning of Sri Krishna Leela Tharangini is Ocean of Sri Krishna's games. Krishna Leela Tarangini is set to melodious music in the form of dance-drama on Lord Sri Krishna composed in simple chaste Sankrit and it is said that Lord Sri Venkateswara of Varahur Himself danced to the tunes of Tharangam. Tharangini, the lengthiest musical play in Sanskrit consists of 12 Tharangams comprising of 147 kirtanas, 267 slokas, 30 gadyams, 30 derus and link passages narrating the story from the birth of Sri Krishna up to Sri Rukmini Kalyanam.
